The Hungarian jet bomber.

The Il-28s that operated in the USSR were capable of delivering nuclear weapons. The Hungarian machines never even dropped practice bombs, since they didn't have any.

The nose gear, carrying a cylindrical object with an unknown function. Perhaps the electromotor controlling the nosewheel?

Ugyanúgy lehet perspektivikus kompozíciókat fényképezni rajta, mint egy épületen.

You can make perspective compositions on it just like on a building.

A pilótafülke plexije is megsárgult. Nem csoda: a gép nálam idősebb, pedig már én is ötössel kezdem az éveim számát.

Elárulok egy érdekességet: Nagy András, a Múzeum gyűjteményvezetője és ez a gép egyidősek: a gép éppen Andris születése napján került ki a gyárból!

The plexi on the pilot's cockpit is yellowed, too. Small wonder: the plane's older than I am, and even I'm writing my age with a 5 as the first digit.

 I'll tell you something interesting: Andras Nagy, the museum's curator and this airplane are the same age: he was born on the same day as this plane left the factory!

A hajtómű belsejében nem sok nyoma van az áramvonalazásnak. A temérdek "kacat" igencsak kavarta a levegőt...

There's little trace of streamlining inside the nacelle. The mass of odds and ends inside certainly stirred the air up...

Unlikely shapes.

Izgalmas hely: a faroklövész -rádiós fülkéje.

 An "exciting" (in various senses) spot: the tailgunner/radioman's position.

Az iker-gépágyú csövei függőlegesen a vájatban mozogtak, a vízszintes irányban az egész gömb fordult.

The barrels of the twin cannon moved vertically in the grooves; in the horizontal plane, the entire sphere turned.

A petróleumlámpás tanyavilág romantikája...

This form caught my eye, too.

There's an antenna and some charge dissipators on the vertical stabiliser.

The museum's staff is letting the airplane breathe. Here follow what I think are some sights you won't see every day.

Benézünk a bombázó-navigátor fülkéjébe. Baloldalt navigációs műszerek, középen a célzóberendezés, alatta a kisfiam kukucskál: apa menjünk már !...

Fölül a vörös tekertyű igencsak fontos lehetett, sajnos nem tudom mi a célja.

Vagy jól sejtem hogy tűzoltó-berendezés?

 Looking inside the bombardier-navigator's cabin. Nav instruments on the left, bombsight in the middle, and my son is peering inside: "Dad, let's go already!"
The red crank up top must have been something important, but I don't know what. Or maybe my
guess is right, and it belongs to the fire suppression system?

Navigációs panelnek tűnik, rajta iránytű és egyebek. Az alsó doboz szerepe ismeretlen.

Föntről valami, utólag zöldre mázolt "izé" terjeng lefelé...

 It looks like a nav panel, with compass and other such things. The function of the box on the bottom is unknown to me. From the top something that was subsequently painted green is hanging.

A katapultülés mellett szerintem a radar van.

Beside the ejection seat is what I think is part of the radar.

Na itt látszik a fülke több érdekessége. A bombázó-navigátornak két ülése van, mondjuk mi most a katapultülésben ülünk, amit felfelé lehetett kilőni.

Ha az "egy fős személyzet" a munkáját végezte, szépen kiszállt a katapultülésből, átült "stokira" és menetiránynak oldalt ülve navigált, vagy azzal szemben célzott. Mindezt mondjuk a célterület felett, heves elhárító tűz közepette. Ez alatt be sem volt kötve. Ha gond támadt, komótosan visszaült a katapultülésbe, akkurátusan bekötötte magát és sutty !

Hááát, nem egy

életbiztosítás ! 

A fülke alja viszont igen komolyan páncélozott.

Egyébként ez a kabin igen tágas, ahogy nézegettem akár hölgyvendéget is lehetett benne fogadni (lehetőleg filigrán és hajlékony alkatút).

Here we can see some of the more interesting parts of the cabin. The bomber-navigator had two seats; right now, we're in the ejection seat, which shot out upwards. If the "one man crew" was doing his work, he simply got up out of the ejection seat and sat over onto the stool, navigating with his body oriented sidewise along the line of flight, or turned
against it to target. And all this let's say above the target area, in the midst of
heavy flak. And through all this, he wasn't even strapped down. If something happened, he made himself comfortable in the ejection seat, strapped himself in carefully, and zoom! Weeelll, I wouldn't call it life insurance!

The bottom of the cabin is quite heavily armoured, though. The cabin is rather
spacious, though, and looking at it, you could probably bring a ladyfriend along (if she's petite).

A fotógéppuska. Szép fényes az objektívje, ennek története is van.

Egyszer egy jó szemű látogató kisasolta, hogy hiányzik ez a bizonyos objektív (már hogyne hiányozna ennyi viszontagságon átesett gépből...) Megkérdezte, van-e belőle tartalék (már hogy lett volna)? Hát ő hozott egyet - ez van most a fotogéppuskán!

Once, a sharp-eyed visitor noticed that this particular lens is missing (well, how would it not be missing from a plane that's been through so much...). He asked if we had any
spares (you really think we have spares?). Well, he brought one - and now that's what's on the gun
camera!

A bombacélzó készülék. Egyszer egy tengerentúlról idetévedt látogató meglátta és felkiáltott: ez egy Norden !

Van benne igazság: a szovjetek által gyártott eszköz nem véletlenül hasonlít kísértetiesen a II. világháború egyik fontos találmányára. Most mechanikus analóg célszámítógépnek mondanánk.

A zöld csövek a bombacélzó berendezés előtti sík üvegablakot párátlanítják.

The bombsight. Once, a visitor from overseas who got lost and found himself here saw it and exclaimed "that's a Norden!"

Well, there's some truth to it: it's no accident that the Soviet-made device has an eerie resemblance to the one of the important inventions of the Second World War. Nowadays, they'd call it an analogue targetting computer.

On the cabin's right are some switches with Russian labels and the firing switches for the thre sets of signal flares.
 

Tőlük hátrébb ez a szerkezet. Feltehetően a földhöz viszonyított haladási irányt és sebességet lehetett vele mérni. Nem baj, ha Ti jobban tudjátok - és persze meg is írjátok !

Further back from those is this device. It seems to be for calculating the direction and speed of the plane with regards to the ground. It's okay if you know better - and you tell me!

Ez az izé a bal oldalon van, talán a radar része.

This whatchamacallit is on the left side, maybe it's part of the radar.
 

Olyan sok a hely a fülkében, hogy a célzóberendezéshez helyezkedve belefért a képbe a katapultülés is !

Az ő jobb oldalán az oxigéntömlő, amit természetesen a másik ülésig is elvezettek (feljebb láthatod).

There's so much space in the cabin, that positioned beside the bombsight, we can get the ejection seat in the picture!

On its right is the oxygen hose, which of course led over to the second seat as well (see above).

Az üléstől jobbra lévő kapcsolótábla az elektromos berendezések nagy részének kezelőfelülete.

 To the right of the seat is this panel, from which most of the electronic systems can be controlled.

A típusváltozat nem egyezik a mi gépünkkel, de tájékozódásra jó.

This is a wide-angle view "borrowed" from a Polish book.

The type variant doesn't match ours, but is good for general orientation purposes.
 

Ez már a pilóta kabinja. Mintha ő is a Balatonból került volna elő...

This here is the pilot's cabin. It's as if she was dragged up out of Lake Balaton, too... (see: Il-2)

Előtte ismeretlen célú, de markáns kialakítású kar - és sok kapcsoló, jelzőlámpa.

I don't know what they are, but there's a lever of significant size and many switches and indicator lamps.

A műszerfal részlete. Fölül középen a tartalék műhorizont kilóg a csapatból, formavilágát tekintve inkább az NDK turmixgép kategóriája...

 Part of the instrument panel. At top centre the secondary artificial horizon sticks out of the line; judging from its shape it belongs more in the category of East German blenders...

Az egészségügyi dobozon kívül semmi sem biztos. A csap talán a pilóta oxigénellátó berendezése, előtte talán rádió.

 I'm not sure of anything besides the first aid kit. The spigot maybe controls the pilot's oxygen system, in front of that, that's maybe a radio.

The Polish drawing distorts a lot, and the positioning of the instruments is different, too. The main controls are in the right place, at least...

A pilóta fejpáncélja nincs túlzásba víve. Igaz, jó vastag repülőgépet kellett előbb átütnie az ide szánt lövedéknek.

The armour at the pilot's head sure wasn't overdone. True, though, any bullets intended for this area had to push through a pretty thick airplane first.

Ha már felmásztunk ide az ingó létrán a forró gépbe kapaszkodva, nézzünk körül!

 If we've climbed up here on the swaying ladder, grabbing into the burning hot airplane, then let's take a look around!

A hajtómű gondolája innen kevésbé otromba.

The nacelle is a little less ungainly from this angle.
 

Na, ez nehéz dió ! Nagyon tetszett a rádiós-lövész kabinja, de ezt lefényképezni?!

Ez a kép a nyitott alsó ajtó felől készült. Baloldalt a gépágyú kezelőszervei alatti asztalka (lehatva), jobbra a lövész fejtámlája, a kép jobb alsó sarkában az elfordításkor felnyíló ülése.

A beszálló ajtó lefelé nyílt, ez volt a rádiós-lövész menekülő útja is: katapultülés híján erre állva kellett meghúznia a nyitókart és egyszerűen kiesett a gépből.

This picture was taken looking upwards from the open underside door. To the left is the little table (folded down) underneath the gun's controls, to the right is the gunner's headrest. At the bottom right you can see part of the seat, which folds open when turned.

 The entry door opens downwards, and this was the gunner's escape route, too:
lacking an ejection seat, he had to stand up to open the door, and then simply fell out of the airplane.

A célzóberendezés a célkereszttel. Ez utóbbit kénytelen vagy hozzáképzelni,  mivel a képről lemaradt... A kép tetejétől felfelé egy centire lenne.

The gunsight with the crosshairs. You'll have to imagine the latter, because it got cut off the photo... it'd be a centimetre above the top edge of the picture.

Azt hiszem ezt a gépet szépen kiveséztük. Talán egyszer mindegyik múzeumi gépet sikerül ilyen mélységig megismernünk !

I think we've looked through the plane fairly completely. Perhaps one day we'll succeed in getting every airplane in the museum covered this thoroughly!

Of the three Polish drawings, this is the weakest! The grabs are reminescent of old streetcars. The cannon doesn't have a handle on the right side, and a lot of equipment is missing.
