IL-2 M3

Fordítás / Translation: Frank Valoczy, Jószai Zoltán

A Balatonból közel hat évtized után kiemelt gépről sok fotót találsz az "archív" rovatban.

You'll find many pictures of the aircraft lifted out of Lake Balaton after close to 60 years in the "Archive" section.

2010. augusztus

Nézzük körbe a sátorhangárt uraló csatarepülő-roncsot!

August 2010. Let's walk around the wreck of the warplane dominating the tent-hangar!

An enermous V12 engine is hiding in the aerodynamic nose. It is most exciting that here-and-there the original painting still can be seen on the armor plating.

Előtérben a szárny "metszete".

A "cutaway view" of the wing in the foreground.

A kétfős személyzet munkahelye.

Workplace for the crew of two.

A védőgéppuskás helye - már ami megmaradt belőle.

The rear gunner's position - at least what is remaining of it.

A jobb szárny is ugyanott tört el.

The right wing broke at the same section.

A kabin(ok) jobbról.

The cabin(s) from the right.

A gép mellé helyezve a külön darabokban megtalált részek.

Separately found parts, laid around the plane.

A pilóta kabintetője.

The canopy of the pilot.

The same from inside. The forward part is acrylic, further back armor plating.

A vízszintes vezérsík.

The horizontal stabiliser.

Latin letters on a soviet airplane?!

Solution: probably aluminium plates from an USA Lend-Lease shipment were built into the plane.

A farokkerék és az egyik 23 mm-es gépágyú.

Tail gear and one of the 23mm cannons.

A farokkerék.

The tail gear.

A bal szárny itt tört el a vízre szálláskor. A függőlege lemez mögött a 23 mm-es gépágyú helye, a felénk eső, hiányzó oldalon tárolták a lőszerét. A henger alakú görgő a heveder vezetésére szolgált.

The left wing broke here when crashing into the water. Behind the vertical plate, is the place of the 23mm cannon. The ammunition was in the missing trailing edge. The cylindrical wheel guided the ammunition belt.

A szárny kilépő élénél szétnyíló féklap látható.

Under the trailing edge of the wing, you can see the flaps.

This is the same part of the right side wing, you can clearly see that it looks the exact same, only it is mirrored.

A csűrőmozgató rúd felénk mutat.

The aileron rod pointing at us.

Középen a hevedervezető görgő, mögötte a géppuska helye.

The ammo-belt guiding wheel in the middle, and behind it, the place of the machine gun.

A szárny belépő szekciója, itt elektromos kábeleket látunk.

The leading edge of the wing, we can see electrical cables here.

A felénk eső fényes "orr" a gépágyú burkolatának része, tőle jobbra a géppuska nyílása, még jobbra a főfutó gondolája.

The shiny small "nose" on the left is part of the cover of the cannon, to the right you can see an opening for the machine gun, further right the gondola of the main gear.

Above both main gears the covering of the wings are penetrated. It might have by the gears knocking upwards, although it is uncertain when did it happen: during landing on the lake, bringing the plane ashore, or when transporting it.

Az olajhűtő.

The oil cooler.

Egy kinyitott szerelőnyílás, szerepe nem ismert.

An open hatch, the role of it is unknown for us.

Mint egy képpel feljebb...

Like the picture above.

A piece of an Il-2 wing, but somehow it doesn't connect to the wreckage.
I was relieved when Zoltán Lente told me that it is a part from another Il-2 wreckage...

Egy kinyitott szerelőnyílás. Megfejtésre vár hogy mi látszik alatta.

Another open hatch. What we can see underneath is avaiting explanation.

A bal szárnygéppuska befogása és a kilövő nyílás.

A clamp for the left wing machinegun and the opening for shooting out.

A gép orra a pilótafülke mellől nézve.

The nose of the plane viewed from next to the cockpit.

Two small pins on the side of it, I have only weak guesses regarding it.

Az orr tetején, a pilóta szélvédője előtt az üzemanyag-betöltő nyílás.

On the top of the nose in front of the windshield of the pilot, the fuel filling cap.

Egy másik nyílás, ami átlátszó fedelet rejt.

Esetleg az üzemanyag-szintjelző érzékelőjét?

Another hatch, hiding a transparent cap.
Probably the sensor of the fuel gauge?

Az orr tetején áramlott be a hűtőlevegő, ami - miután áthaladt a hűtőradiátoron - a gép alján lépett ki.

The cooling air streamed in at the top of the nose, then - after flowing through the radiator - left on the bottom of the plane.

A bal oldali kipufogó csonkok, alattuk a festés egy megmaradt foltja.

he left side exhaust pipes, and a patch of the original paint beneath.

A jobb oldali csonkok hátsó négy darabja.

The last four exhaust pipes on the right side. The last one has somehow less room, so the designers bent it a bit differently.

A légcsavarkúp.

The propeller cone.

Az elején a külső indítás csatlakozója, ami a motor beindulása után oldotta a kapcsolatot.

A külső indítás nem lehetett akármilyen mulatság, tekintve hogy a légcsavar-áttétel a légcsavar felől gyorsította a motortengelyt. Nem akármilyen erőhatások léphettek fel!

On the front, connection for starting the engine. It disconnected right after the engine started.
Hand-starting the engine might not have been an easy job. The ratio of the gears for the propeller accelarated the crankshaft when the hand-crank was used. There had to be hell of forces!

Az elkorrodált alumínium burkolat  valamennyit láttatni enged a belső szerkezetből.

The corroded-away aluminium casing lets us see some of the structures inside.

A pilóta szélvédője.

The windscreen of the pilot. The rhombus-shaped part on the middle was there when it was salvaged, but not a day after it.

A golyóálló üveg ugyanazzal a technikával készült mint a mai autók szélvédője: két réteg üveg között egy hihetetlenül ragacsos átlátszó "kence".

Egyébként most is kegyetlenül ragad, olyannyira hogy a sátorhangáz nyári melegében a páncélüveg darabok elindultak szép lassan lefelé.

The bulletproof glass was made with similar technology to modern cars' windshields: two layers of glass with a very sticky transparent gel inbetween.
It is still very sticky, so sticky, that in the heat of the summer tent-hangar the glass armor pieces slowly started to drift downwards.

A pilóta hátpáncélja.

The back armor plate of the pilot.

Acrylic on the sides to look back, but I doubt you could see much to the rear.

Kísérteties hangulatú túrát teszünk a pilótafülkében.

We are taking a ghostly tour in the cockpit.

Néhány műszer hiányzik, a műszerfal burkolata helyenként feszegetve.

Some instruments are missing, and the panel is bent around them.
Although they had almost 60 years, I wouldn't think that the fishes of Lake Balaton have made that.

A jobb alsó műszerben felismerhetjük a műhorizontot.

We can identify the bottom right instrument as the artificial horizon.

A kétkezes botkormányon két elsütő billentyű.

Two firing buttons on the two-handed stick.

A fülke alja, az ülés hiányzik.

The bottom of the cockpit, the seat is missing.

A pilóta bal kezénél a trimmkerék, a motor gázkarja és a légcsavar állásszögének állítója - sok egyéb kezelőszerv kíséretében.

At the left hand of the pilot: the trimming wheel, the throttle lever, propeller pitch lever - alongside with many others.

A fülke hátfala, az ülés maradékával.

The back wall of the cabin, with the remnaining part of the seat.

A pilótafülke jobb oldala. Jól látszik a botkormánytól hátra, a magassági kormányhoz vezető  rúd.

The right side of the cockpit. The elevator moving rod is visible to the right of the control stick.
Many other things are visible too - unfortunately many of them are unknown...

For example we don't know the role of the lever at the pilot's right hand in the back.

A műszerfal a botkormány takarása nélkül.

The instrument plate without the stick in front of it.

A védőgéppuskás fülkéjének maradéka.

Innen hátrafelé a gépből nem sok maradt, tekintve hogy ezen a részen sok fa-alkatrészt alkalmaztak.

A pilótát hatásos páncél védte, míg a védő lövészt szinte semmi!

Remnants of the rear gunner's cabin.
Backwards from here, not much is left from the aeroplane, mostly because a lot of wooden parts were built in at this region.
An effective armor protected the pilot, but the gunner was almost uncovered! Regarding the casuality data, the numbers of gunners KIA is multiple compared to the pilots'.
Shivering rationality: It is much faster to train a new gunner than a pilot, who, if alive, maybe can guide the plane home.

Az élet és halál válaszfala.

Jobb oldalon középen a magassági kormány vezérlőrúdja.

Wall between life and death.
On the right side the elevator moving rod.

A pilóta hátpáncélja a lövész fülkéje felől. A felső döntött páncél a pilóta fejét védte, no meg a rádiót, ami a pilóta és a lövész közötti térben volt elhelyezve.

Back plate of the pilot from the cabin of the gunner. The angled upper armor protected the pilot's head and the radio, which was located between the pilot and the gunner.

A védőgéppuska.

The protective machinegun.

Félkör alakú fogasíven futott körbe.

It moved around on a cogged arch.

A markolat, amelyet valaki görcsösen szorított...

The grip, that was squeezed stressfully by someone...

A végzetes találat helye közelről.

The penetration of the fatal hit from close.
The armor plate was penetrated through by the bullet, it disintegrated and moved further inside in different directions.
