Liszunov  Li-2  "Teve" "Camel"

A gyártás megszervezését Borisz Pavlovics Liszunov irányította. A szovjet gép a PSz-84 (Пассажирский Самолёт - 84) típusnevet kapta.

A gép szerkezetét is megerősítették, illetve a burkoló lemezek is vastagabbak lettek a metrikus átváltás miatt, így a gép tömege is megnövekedett. A gép új motort kapott, ezenkívül szembetűnően változtattak a motorok rögzítésén, a futóműveken, a kerekeken és az abroncsokon.

A gyártás 1939-ben indult. A háború előtt elsősorban utas szállításra alkalmazták, de miután Németország megtámadta a Szovjetuniót hadrendbe állították.

1942-ben kapta a Li-2 típusnevet.

A szocialista országok többsége rendszerbe állította.

The Lisunov Li-2 was a twin-engined monoplane of Soviet manufacture, a licence-built variant of the Douglas DC-3.

The DC-3 was developed in the 1930s, and the Soviet Union received the licence to build it in 1936. Boris Pavlovich Lisunov directed the organisation of the manufacture. Lisunov spent two years in the United States between 1938 and 1940. The Soviet aircraft initially received the designation PS-84 (Passazhirskiy Samolyot - 84: Passenger Airplane-84). Few changes were planned at first, but in the end, there were over 1200 modifications made to the Douglas design. The conversion of the Anglosaxon measures was done by Vladimir Myasischev.

Louvers were placed in front of the engines to protect them from extreme temperatures, the passenger door was moved to the right side and a cargo door was located where the passenger door was. The aircraft's structure was also strengthened, and the thickness of the covering sheets increased, in part due to the metrification of the measures; this also increased the aircraft's weight. The aircraft was given new engines, and visible changes were made to the engine mounts, the landing gear, the wheels and the tires. Construction started in 1939. Before the war they were used primarily for passenger transport, but after Germany invaded the Soviet Union they were pressed into military service.

It received the Li-2 designation in 1942. Some of the aircraft were armed with SKAS machine guns, which were later supplemented by a UBK machine gun as well. Further, it could carry four 250 kg bombs. Altogether, over 6000 Li-2s were built.
Most of the socialist countries had Li-2s in service. There is currently only one in flying condition, HA-LIX in Hungary.

In Hungary, they were used for cargo and passenger transport.

The former HA-LIS - that is, 301 - arrived at the museum in April 2007, so there's once
again a Li-2 at the museum following the resurrection of HA-LIX.
This airplane was also restored to displayable condition by the Goldtimer
foundation, after it had served many decades at the Pécs amusement park. That's where I met her first, about
25 years ago.

Let's walk around!

A pilótafülke alatt szerelőnyílások.

These are maintenance access hatches under the flight deck.

A hasa alja szép sima.

The underside is nice and smooth. It's not visible here, but the flaps, unusually, continue uninterrupted across the belly.

Ugye szép ?

A létrákat azóta elvették...

Nice, isn't she? They've taken the ladders away since.

A pilótafülke oldalsó vészkijárata, a hajózószerelő ülése mellett nyílik.

The side emergency exit from the cockpit, it opens beside the flight technician's seat.
It's a little bizarre, but it's not farther than 40 cm from the plane of the airscrew. There's no way it could be used in the air, and it would probably jam shut on hitting the
ground...

A jobb motor. A képen látható hűtésszabályzó zsaluk régi fotók tanúsága szerint sok  itthoni gépről hiányoztak.

The starboard engine. According to the testamonies of old photos, the protective shield visible here over the engine was missing from many of the Li-2s that served in Hungary.

A főfutó bekötése.

The main gear. It's interesting, that when the gear was retracted, the wheel
"stuck out" partway from the well, giving good service during emergency landings.

I read of an emergency landing made with engines stopped in which the planelanded on the retracted wheels, and the blades of the propellers weren't at all damaged. The airscrews were turned on and off until the upper blade was vertical, allowing the bottom two blades to clear the concrete by a little bit. Apparently, there was no damage at all to the airplane.

A főfutó aknája. A futót kibocsátó-behúzó munkahenger éppen az olaj. (vagy benzin puffer) tartály közepén halad át, a tartály szépen kikerüli.

A kép alján a kipufogó hőjét hasznosító hőcserélő.

The main gear well. The shaft that retracts and extends the gear runs right through the middle of the oil (or gas) tank, the tank simply "goes around it." At the bottom of the  image is the heat exchanger on the exhaust pipe. I don't know, however, if that heat was used for the cabin or for deicing the leading edges of the wings.

Aboard the plane are two gas stoves as well.

Bal hónalj. A DC-3-as "keletre szakadt rokona" is a magyar származású Kármán Tódor és munkatársai új korszakot nyitó munkáját dicséri.

Left armpit. The DC-3's "cousin in the East" is another celebration of the era opened by the pioneering work of the Hungarian Theodore von Karman.

This Li-2 was a cargo variant, as shown by the twin door on the left side. The larger one was opened only as needed, that is, when larger cargo was being loaded.

Ez a kis ajtó a hátsó tehertérbe nyílott. A Li-2 belső tere kísértetiesen hasonlít az Il-14-re, azaz fordítva: a Li-2-ről "vettek mintát" az Iljusin tervező iroda munkatársa.

This little door opened into the after cargo area. The Li-2 is eerily
reminescent to the Il-14 inside, or better, the reverse: the Ilyushin bureau's designers used the
Li-2 as their "inspiration."

Ezt a változatot ejtőernyősök ugratására is használták, itt látható a két "Sztálin-gyertya" kidobó nyílása. Ezt is átvették az Il-14-en.

This variant was also used for paradrops, as evidenced by the two openings for the "Stalin's Candles." This, too, was also taken over to the Il-14.

Az ilyen látvány sokat elárul a gép légellenállásáról.

This view says a lot about the plane's drag.

You may have noticed earlier that the star was painted on twice.

I heard thestory of
this from Endre Zsaludek, that is, first hand, since he did the work: "At first the
plan was to paint this plane the same was as HA-LIX, that is, 209, was painted, which had been taken from the museum. Later (of course, after the work was done...) they decided it should be 301 (HA-LIS) after all, since this was the original number.
"

A jobb oldali ajtó és környéke.

Alatta az ideiglenes "beszállólétra". Kicsit sem bántam, hogy ezen kellet felmászni, hogy a gépbe benézhessek...

The starboard door and its environs, beneath it the temporary "ladder." I didn't mind even a little that I had to climb up this thing to take a look inside...

I like this, too. The screws attaching the wing to the centroplane are clearly visible, though not all (several hundred) are screwed in. The good view is aided by the fact
that the covering plate couldn't be found...

Oldalnézet jobbról. Mögötte utódja, az Il-14.

Side view from the right. In the background is her descendant, the Il-14.

A jobb légcsavar-agy.

A légcsavar agy közepén a szükség-indító tengelycsatlakozója. Ehhez az indító kocsiból kiálló hosszú tengellyel tudtak csatlakozni.

A normális indítás inercia-indítóval történt, amelynek lendkerekét elektromotor, illetve annak hibája esetén kézi kurblival a személyzet pörgette fel.

The starboard propeller hub. The blades clearly show the alcohol deicing system's
grooves, though the hoses can't be seen.
In the middle of the hub is the connection point for the emergency crank. This could
be connected to a long crank sticking out of the starter car. Normally, starting happened with an inertial starter, whose flywheel was cranked up by an electromotor, or, failing that, with a hand crank.

A törzsön a megerősített burkolat a légcsavarról leváló jégdarabok ellen véd.

The tip of the propeller blade is only centimetres from the fuselage. The "armour plating" on the fuselage protects it from chunks of ice flying off the airscrew.

A leszálló-fényszóró plexije kissé időrágta.

The plexi over the landing light is somewhat time-worn.

Szép gépről könnyű dekoratív képet készíteni !

Körbeértünk. Most belül is szemügyre vesszük a Tevét.

It's easy to take a nice picture of a nice plane!

We've gone all the way around; now it's time to look at the Camel from inside.

Let's go in! If we've laughed death in the face and climbed up that "structure" substituting for a ladder, then don't let's start with the toilet. Looking to the right first, we see the passenger compartment.

Balra nyílik a hátsó tehertér, abból a faroktér.

To the left is the after cargo space, behind that is the tail space.

A hátsó tehertér ajtaja.

The door of the after cargo space.

A faroktér ajtaja - illetve ajtó az nincs rajta.

The door to the tail space - that is, the door isn't there.

A faroktér (gép szerinti) jobb oldalán egy benzinkályha van, jól láthatóan a vezérsíkok forró levegős jégtelenítésére. Felette műszerpolc.

On the right side (relative to the plane) of the tail space is a gas heater, obviously for deicing the stabilisers with hot air. Above it, an instrument shelf.

Középen a farokkerék függőleges tengelye, keresztben a vízszintes vezérsík átmenő tartója.

In the middle is the tail wheel's vertical axle, crosswise is the spar
connecting the two horizontal stabilisers.

A faroktér bal oldalán két ledobócső a világító tölteteknek (Sztálin-gyertya) az éjszakai ejtőernyős ugrásokhoz.

On the left side of the tailspace are the ejection tubes for the illumination flares (Stalin's Candles) used for nighttime paradrops.

A fedélzeti WC, bár én inkább árnyékszéknek nevezném...

The on-board washroom, though I'd sooner call it a privy.

Az utastér jobb oldalán nyíló vészkijárat.

The emergency exit on the right side of the passenger compartment.

Az utastér elejéből visszanézünk.

Looking back from the front of the passenger cabin.

Foreward of the passenger cabin on the right is this shelf area, with a gas heater on the bottom.

Vegyük szemügyre a kályhát is !

A ventilátor motorja sehol, legalábbis itt nincs...

Let's take a closer look at the stove, too. I don't know if it heated the cabin or the wings.

The fan motor is nowhere, at least it isn't here...

Left side: a coat rack with hangers and shelves, and a tank serving an unknown purpose.

Még mindig bal oldal:

műszerpolcok.

Still on the left: shelves for instruments.

Bal oldal: a hajózószerelő ülése, menetiránynak háttal, de saját vészkijárattal -  igaz, egyenesen a bal légcsavarra.

A lábát vajon hol tartotta  derék szerelőnk?

On the left: the technician's seat, backwards to the line of flight, but with his own emergency exit - right onto the portboard airscrew.

But where did our fine mechanic
keep his legs?

A rádiós - navigátor lakályos munkahelye a gép jobb oldalán, szintén háttal a menetiránynak.

The navigator/radio operator's spacious workplace was on the right, likewise backwards to the line of flight.

There are two emergency pumps between the navigator and the copilot, probably for  emergency use.

És itt vagyunk a szentélyben.

Az Il-14 (a tagadhatatlan utód) fülkéjéhez képest meglehetősen szűk.

A kormányok csűrő irányban nincsenek összekötve, azért nem állnak egyformán.

And here we are in the sanctum. It's quite a tight fit compared to the Il-14 (the undeniable descendant). The wheels aren't connected, which is why they're positioned differently.

Még az időóra is megvan !

The central part of the instrument panel.

Even the time clock is there!

A gázkar-pult. Van rajta kezelőszerv bőven !

The throttle console. Plenty of levers on it!

And here, we leave, too.
